Taxi to Southampton Cruise Terminal, Dover & Tilbury

Fixed-fare taxis to Southampton cruise terminals, Dover, Tilbury, Portsmouth and Harwich, from London, Heathrow and Gatwick, with room for a fortnight’s luggage.

Cruise passengers pack more than anyone else. Formal wear, two weeks of clothes, sometimes a mobility scooter. Getting all of that onto a train to Southampton is no fun, which is why most of our cruise work is simply London to the ship and back.

Heathrow to Southampton taxi and other fly-cruise connections

Flying into Heathrow or Gatwick to join a ship? We collect from arrivals and drive straight to the port. Heathrow to Southampton taxi transfers take about 1 hr 30 min, and we run the same trip in reverse as a Southampton to Heathrow taxi on disembarkation day. We also cover Southampton to Gatwick and Portsmouth to Heathrow. Because we track your flight, a delay does not leave you stranded, though for cruises we always recommend leaving a comfortable margin before your boarding cut-off.

Boarding windows and pickup times

Cruise lines give each passenger a check-in or boarding slot. Send us yours and we will set a pickup time that gets you there inside it, with a margin for the M25. There is no prize for arriving three hours early to a cruise terminal: you will just queue.

Disembarkation day

On the way home, ships tend to disembark passengers in groups from early morning. Tell us your expected time off the ship. The driver will meet you at the terminal and we keep in touch on the day in case your group is called later than planned.

Taxi to Dover, Tilbury and Harwich

Not every cruise leaves from Southampton. A taxi to Dover suits Kent and south-east London passengers, Tilbury is the closest port to central London, and Harwich serves sailings from the Essex coast. Whichever port, your fare is fixed when you book.

Choosing a vehicle

Two people with two large cases each will need an estate. A family of four going away for two weeks will usually need an MPV. For larger groups, see our minibus page.

Packing and luggage tips for cruise transfers

  • Count large cases and suit carriers separately; formal wear takes room.
  • Keep passports, tickets and medicines in hand luggage, not the boot.
  • If you have a mobility scooter or folding wheelchair, give us the dimensions.
  • Label every case with your ship and cabin details before you leave home.

Southampton cruise terminals explained

Southampton is the UK’s busiest cruise port and has several terminals spread around the docks: the Ocean, Mayflower, City, QEII and Horizon cruise terminals. They are not next to each other, so the terminal printed on your cruise documents matters. Send it to us with your booking and your driver will take you to the right drop-off point.

A typical embarkation-day timeline

Here is how a London to Southampton cruise transfer might look for a passenger with a 13:00 boarding slot. Your times will depend on your slot and where you live.

TimeWhat happens
09:15Pickup from your home in London
09:15–11:30Drive via the M3, with time built in for traffic
11:30–12:00Arrive at your cruise terminal and unload luggage
12:00 onwardsCheck in for your 13:00 boarding window
An example only. We set your pickup time from your actual boarding slot.

Cruise transfers for families and groups

Cruise holidays are often family affairs, with several generations travelling together. One 8-seater minibus can carry up to eight people with their luggage, which keeps the group together and is usually cheaper than two cars. If you have a mobility scooter or folding wheelchair, give us the make and dimensions so we can confirm it fits.

Disembarkation day: getting home

Ships disembark passengers in stages from early morning, and your group number can be called earlier or later than expected. Tell us your expected time off the ship and keep your phone on. We keep in touch on the day and the driver meets you at the terminal. Many passengers go straight from the ship to Heathrow or Gatwick for a flight, so allow a generous margin between your expected disembarkation time and your flight.

Taxi to Dover cruise terminal

Dover suits passengers from Kent and south-east London. The drive from central London takes around two hours via the M20 or M2, and the cruise terminals are at the Western Docks. As with Southampton, check your boarding time and we will plan the pickup around it.

Tilbury: the closest cruise port to London

The London International Cruise Terminal at Tilbury is around 25 miles from central London, so it is the quickest port to reach from most of the capital. It is a good fit for east London and Essex passengers in particular. Allow about an hour from central London in normal traffic, more if you are travelling through the Dartford Crossing area at peak times.

Portsmouth and Harwich sailings

Portsmouth International Port is about two hours from central London via the A3, and it is also within easy reach of Surrey and west Sussex. Harwich, on the Essex coast, is a similar distance in the other direction via the A12. Fewer cruise ships sail from these two ports than from Southampton, so double-check the port on your booking before you send us the details.

What to keep with you, not in the boot

  • Passports, cruise tickets and boarding documents
  • Medicines you will need on the first day
  • Phone chargers and anything valuable
  • A jacket for the terminal, which can be chilly in the queue

Everything else can go in the boot. Label each case with your ship, cabin and name before you leave home; port staff usually take the big cases from the kerb and deliver them to your cabin later.

Booking your cruise transfer

Send us your ship name, port, terminal, boarding time and the number of passengers and cases. For the return, give us the date and your expected disembarkation time. We confirm both legs in writing with a fixed price for each.

If your cruise departs from a port we have not listed, ask anyway. We take longer journeys across the UK and will quote for any port on the mainland.
